BSF holds mentally challenged Bangladeshi woman
A mentally challenged Bangladeshi woman, who went missing from her home in Lalmonirhat's Aditmari upazila on March 21, was detained by Indian Border Security Force.
BSF handed Jabu Tahmina, a resident of the upazila's Bhadai union, over to Indian police. She was now admitted to a mental hospital in India for treatment, said Nur Islam, camp commander of Border Guard Bangladesh in Durgapur, yesterday.
She entered India through Durgapur border. BSF authorities sent a photograph of the woman to BGB, the official said, reports our Lalmonirhat correspondent.
The woman will be sent back to Bangladesh following legal processes in India, he added.
Jabu's brother Badsha Alam said people who reside along Durgapur border informed him that his sister was in that area.
"I have come to know that my sister is undergoing treatment in India's Cooch Behar Mental Hospital," he said.
According to her family members, Jabu got married at the age of 19. She became mentally unstable when her unborn child died. She was being treated at Rangpur Medical College Hospital for the last 10 years.
