Abul Kalam Manzur Morshed no more
Linguist Prof Abul Kalam Manzur Morshed, an Ekushey Padak recipient, passed away at his residence in Dhaka yesterday.
Prof Manzur, a former director general of the Bangla Academy and recipient of the Bangla Academy Award, breathed his last in Nakhalpara, according to family sources.
His daughter, Manzula Morshed, told The Daily Star that her father used to conduct two classes a week at Dhaka University.
They suspect he suffered a stroke.
His namaz-e-janaza will be held at Dhaka University Central Jame Mosque after Zohr prayers today.
He will be laid to rest at the Mirpur Intellectuals Graveyard.
Born in Rajshahi, Prof Manzur completed his education at various institutions, including Dhaka University and the University of Edinburgh in Scotland, where he obtained his PhD.
His illustrious career began in 1964 when he joined the Department of Bangla at DU.
Over time, he also taught at Chittagong University before returning to DU.
