6 MEPs claims wrong, unacceptable: Razzaque
Agriculture Minister Abdur Razzaque today (Wednesday) told parliament that the information given in a statement issued by six Members of European Parliament (MEPs) is false.
He also said the statement reads like as if it was issued by BNP's wing in Europe. Such 'motivated' statement from the European Union Parliament is not expected, he added.
Razzaque, also a presidium member of ruling Awami League, said these while participating in the general discussion on the proposed budget for 2023-2024 fiscal.
Citing the statement, the minister said the MEPs claim that minorities are being tortured here is completely untrue.
The statement also states that the minorities are being deprived of civil rights.
The minister urged the UN secretary general to send a team to investigate the allegations.
"Send a delegation. If they can prove the MEPs claims about torture of minorities and the denial of their civil rights, we ... will accept any punishment. But I will never accept this kind of lies. This cannot be acceptable," he said.
Razzaque said Bangladesh is an independent, sovereign country which has its own constitution and laws. Based on that one person (Khaleda Zia) has been sentenced. Can they talk about her release? They can only ask for a review of the judgment."
The minister, referring to the statement and a few recent developments, said these are attacks effect will be temporary. He said under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Bangladesh's development journey will continue tackling these challenges.
