5 Bangladeshis return after serving 2 years’ jail in India
Five Bangladeshis have returned home through the Benapole check post in Jashore this morning after serving prison time in India.
The returnees are Palash Sheel, Beby Begum, Shirin Begum, Rita Mandal, and Ayub Ali, reports our local correspondent quoting Benapole Immigration Officer-in-Charge Ahsan Habib.
The Petrapole Immigration Police of India handed them over to the Benapole Check-Post Immigration Police after completing immigration formalities through travel permits.
The OC said Indian police arrested them two years ago as they entered India without any valid documents.
Later, police produced them before the court which sentenced them to two years in prison.
They were repatriated today on special travel permits issued by the Indian government.
An NGO, Justice and Care, took them to their shelter home from the Benapole Port Police Station, said the OC, adding that they will later be handed over to their families.
