20 Bangladeshis return from India after serving 2 years jail
Twenty Bangladeshis returned to home through Benapole check post today after serving two years' jail in India.
Indian police handed over the 20 people to Bangladesh authorities this evening, said Ahsan Habib, officer-in-charge of Benapole Immigration Police. India issued special travel permit for them.
They are residents of different areas of Jashore, Satkhira, Brahmanbaria, Gopalganj and Narayanganj.
After completing the immigration formalities, the returnees were handed over to Benapole Port Police Station, the OC told our Benapole correspondent. Later, they will be handed over to their respective families, he added.
Sufia Begum, one of the returnees, said they went to India through brokers for good jobs. Indian police arrested them while working in different houses in Kolkata. Later, they were sent to court.
At the end of serving jail, they were sent to Liluah Shelter in Kolkata, she said.
Sufia claimed there are many Bangladeshi women in the shelter. They are waiting to return to Bangladesh.
