EC formation: President invites 3 more parties for dialogue
President Abdul Hamid today invited three more political parties to have a dialogue with him at the Bangabhaban over the formation of next election commission.
The five-year tenure of the incumbent Commission, led by Chief Election Commission KM Nurul Huda, will expire on February 14.
According to the Bangabhaban Press Wing, Bangladesh Khelafat Andolon was invited to sit in dialogue at 7:40pm on January 3.
Bangladesher Sammobadi Dal (CPB Marxist–Leninist) was invited to hold dialogue at 6:00pm on January 4 while Islami Andolan Bangladesh was invited to hold dialogue at 7:00pm on the same day.
President Abdul Hamid began the dialogue with registered political parties from December 20 and so far held dialogue with seven political parties including the main opposition in parliament -- Jatiya Party, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal and Workers Party, two components in the Awami League-led grand alliance.
As of today, the president invited 16 political parties to join the dialogue.
Now there are 39 registered political parties, according to the EC website. But only nine parties have representation in Parliament.
Three political parties -- Bangladesher Samajtantrik Dal, Communist Party of Bangladesh and BNP -- have so far rejected the president's dialogue terming it unnecessary and a "waste of time".
