NSU holds 24th convocation
Over 7,000 students were awarded graduation degrees at the 24th convocation of North South University (NSU) held yesterday at the Bangabandhu Bangladesh-China Friendship Exhibition Centre, Purbachal, said a press release.
Education Minister Dipu Moni presided over the ceremony on behalf of President Mohammed Shahabuddin.
The convocation speaker was Montek S Ahluwalia, former deputy chairman of the Planning Commission of India and a fellow of the Centre for Social and Economic Progress.
Javed Muneer Ahmad, chairman of the Board of Trustees, NSU; Dr Junaid Kamal Ahmad, member of the Board of Trustees; and Prof Atiqul Islam, vice-chancellor of NSU, spoke among others.
Besides, Yasmin Kamal and Shahriar Kamal, members of the Board of Trustees; and Prof M Ismail Hossain, NSU pro-VC, were present.
Marshall Shaila Joarder, associate professor, Department of Architecture, delivered welcome speech.
Prof Dr Helal Ahammad, dean of the School of Business and Economics; Prof Abdur Rob Khan, dean of School of Humanities and Social Sciences; Prof Dr Javed Bari, dean of the School of Engineering and Physical Sciences; and Prof Hasan Mahmud Reza, dean of the School of Health and Life Sciences, also attended the programme.
Chancellor's Gold Medals and Vice Chancellor's Gold Medals were awarded to 20 students at the ceremony.
