7 trucks of buffaloes imported from India without duty
Seven trucks of buffaloes were imported from India without duty through Benapole Land Port last night.
A total of 104 buffaloes arrived at Benapole port in seven trucks from Haryana, India, reports our Benapole correspondent citing customs and port sources.
Bangladeshi importer Gentech International Limited imported the buffaloes from India.
Sharsha Upazila Livestock Officer Binay Krishna Mandal said the buffaloes will be taken to a buffalo development project in Bagerhat's Fakirhat. The buffaloes were found to be in good health upon inspection.
The tender for the import of 48 large cows, 48 calves and 8 bulls (breeding) was for milk production.
Rabindranath Singha, deputy commissioner of Benapole Customs House, said, a C&F agent Mukti Enterprises submitted the necessary documents to deliver the buffaloes from the Benapole port.
The consignment of buffaloes was released from the port after inspection and assessment by the customs authority at 9:00pm, he said.
The import price of the buffalo consignment has been announced as US$ 1,17,647.20. There is no import duty on these buffaloes, he added.
