Woman arrested with 10 gold bars in Benapole
Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have arrested a suspected gold smuggler with 10 gold bars in Benapole.
The arrestee, Ratna Begum (33), of Putkhali village, was held around 9:30pm tonight (November 6, 2022) with the gold bars weighing 1.165kg from Putkhali border of Benapole while trying to smuggle it to India, reports our Benapole correspondent quoting Commanding Officer of 21 BGB Battalion Lt Col Tanvir Rahman.
The market value of the recovered gold is estimated to be around Tk 82.5 lakh, the BGB said.
Lt Col Tanvir Rahman said, based on a tip-off that a woman named Ratna Begum was staying at the Putkhali border with the intention of smuggling gold to India, a BGB patrol team raided the place and arrested the suspected female gold smuggler.
Later, she was searched and 10 pieces of gold bars were found. The arrested woman was handed over to Benapole Port Police Station, he added.
