Two killed in ‘gunfights’ with Rab, BGB in Cox’s Bazar
A Rohingya man and a local were killed in what officials termed as gunfights in Cox's Bazar over the last two days.
Wing Commander Azim Ahmed of Rab-15 said a Rohingya refugee named Hasimullah, 30, was killed during an exchange of fire with Rab officers in Damdamia, Teknaf, early yesterday.
He said Hasimullah was head of a gang of robbers called Hashem Bahini.
He added that the incident happened when a Rab team raided the area after being tipped off about a robbery. "The miscreants started shooting at Rab members who then fired back in self-defence. As the miscreants fled the scene after a while, Rab found one person lying on the ground."
Rab said Hasimullah was accused of robbery, kidnapping and murder in five cases filed with Teknaf Police Station.
In Ukhiya, 40-year-old Lutfar Rahman Prakash, who went by the alias of Lutu, was shot dead by Border Guard Bangladesh men, said Ali Haider Azad Ahmed, commander of BGB-34 in Cox's Bazar.
The incident happened in Nalbania, Palongkhali, around 9:00pm on Thursday when a patrolling BGB team stopped a few men who started shooting at them.
"As the BGB team retaliated, the suspects fled the scene," he added.
The BGB members then searched the area and found Lutfar with gunshot wounds. They found 50,000 yaba pills, a gun and bullets in his possession, the BGB commander added.
Lutfar was accused in 12 cases of possessing arms, narcotics and conducting robbery, he added.
