Panchagarh farmer injured by bomb 'hurled by BSF'
A Bangladeshi farmer was injured by a "non-lethal bomb" allegedly hurled by BSF along Bhariapara border in Panchagarh today.
The victim Rabiul Islam, 52, of Bhariapara village of Atwari upazila, suffered injuries to his head and eyes, reports our Thakurgaon correspondent quoting BGB officials.
Rabiul, talking to reporters at Panchagarh Sadar Hospital, said he, along with other farmers, kept red chillis on the no man's land for drying in the morning.
Later, around 12:30pm, a group of BSF personnel of Dhanirhat BSF camp attempted to take the chillis, he added.
As the farmers protested, a scuffle ensued between the two parties. At one stage, they allegedly hurled a bomb at Rabiul leaving him injured.
After receiving primary treatment at Panchagarh Sadar Hospital, Rabiul was transferred to Rangpur Medical College Hospital.
Till filing this report, he was undergoing treatment there.
Confirming the incident, Commanding Officer of Panchagarh 18 Bangladesh Border Guard (BGB) Battalion Lt Col Jubayet Hasan said the Bangladeshi farmer was injured by a non-lethal bomb hurled by BSF.
BGB sent a protest note condemning the incident, the CO said.
