Narsingdi's Shibpur upazila parishad chairman Harunur Rashid Khan, 70, who was shot allegedly by his political rivals in February, died today while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Dhaka.

The victim's nephew Fazla Rabbi Khan confirmed it to our Narsingdi correspondent over phone this evening.

Harun's followers staged demonstration and brought out processions in different areas of the upazila following his death. The agitating protesters burnt tyres at Itakhala intersection area and blockaded Dhaka-Sylhet highway.

Additional law enforcers were deployed in the area to avoid violence, said Md Firuz Talukder, officer-in-charge (OC) of Shibpur Police Station.

Earlier on February 25 morning, Harun was shot allegedly by his political rivals in his house. Three days after the incident, a case was filed with local police station accusing six people.

Harunur's brother Robiul Alam Kiron Khan, who was also a lawmaker, was shot dead by his political rivals back in 1986.
