Murder of colleague: Charges framed against ex-GCC official
A Dhaka court today framed charges against three people, including Mohammad Selim, a former assistant engineer of Gazipur City Corporation, in a case filed over the 2020 murder of his senior colleague Delwar Hossain.
Selim went into hiding after getting bail from the High Court on June 29 last year. Charges were framed against him in his absentia, said M Kaoser Ahmed, lawyer of the complainant.
Two of his accomplices, Helal Howlader and Habibur Rahman Khan, both in jail custody, pleaded not guilty and demanded justice after Mohammad Morshed Alam of Dhaka's Fourth Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court read out the charges to them.
The judge fixed May 7 for starting the trial of this case.
Investigation Officer Sheikh Mofizul Islam, also an inspector of Turag Police Station, filed the charge sheet over the murder of Delwar with the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court of Dhaka on May 3, 2021.
Following an altercation with the then executive engineer Delwar on May 5, 2020, Selim decided to kill him and hired Helal and Habibur for this.
On May 11, 2020, Selim and the two visited Delwar's home in the capital's Mirpur on a microbus.
According to the probe report, Selim along with his two accomplices killed Delwar and dumped his body in an empty plot of Uttara Sector-17 near Beribadh.
They also threw Delwar's cell phone into a lake in Dishari area.
Police onthe same day recovered the body from Beribadh around 4:00pm.
On May 12, 2020, victim's wife Khodeja Akhter identified the body at the Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College morgue.
She filed the murder case with Turag Police Station the same day accusing unidentified people.
Police later arrested the three, including Selim, who later made confessional statements to magistrates on different dates.
