Man suspected to be a thief beaten to death in Dhaka
A man was beaten to death on suspicion that he is a thief in Dhaka's Sabujbagh area early today.
Before his death, the deceased only managed to say his name is Ridoy, aged around 28.
The incident took place inside the boundary wall of a local playground in Bashabo area where construction of club building was going on.
Some people including the club's manager and caretaker caught him around 11:15pm yesterday, suspecting him to be a thief. They tied up his hands and legs and beat him up, leaving him critically injured, said sub-inspector Anwar Hossain of Sabujbagh Police Station.
On information, police rushed there and took him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in an unconscious state. He died around 3:00am while being treated there, he said.
His body bore torture marks.
Police picked up two persons from the spot and are trying to detain others involved.
The body was sent to hospital morgue for autopsy.
