Journo attacked 'by AL men' in Dhamrai
A local journalist was attacked allegedly by supporters of a local Awami League leader while he was covering the BNP's union-level march programme in Dhamrai of Dhaka today.
Shamim Khan, Dhamrai upazila correspondent of Bangla daily Jugantor, is now undergoing treatment at Saturia Upazila Health Complex in Manikganj, reports our Savar correspondent.
The victim's family claimed that the journalist was hacked and beaten by the followers of Gangutia Union Parishad Chairman Quader Mollah, also president of the union unit AL, at Hatkora village around 12:00pm.
The victim's son Imran Ahmed told the correspondent that "My father went to Hatkora village to cover BNP's march program. The followers of UP chairman Quader Molla tried to disrupt the BNP's program and also suddenly attacked my father."
He also said the attacker stabbed his father with a sharp weapon, leaving him seriously injured.
Gangutia Union Parishad Chairman Abdul Quader Mollah said, apart from the BNP march, local Awami League brought out two rallies in the area.
He claimed that the BNP's procession was led by journalist Shamim Khan. "The journalist might have been injured during the clash."
