HC issues contempt of court rule against Rajuk chairman, 3 others

The High Court yesterday issued a contempt of court rule against the chairman of the Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (Rajuk) and three others for continuing earth filling by the "Millennium City" project at low-lying agricultural area in Keraniganj in violation of the court order.
The other three are the director general of the Department of Environment, Dhaka's deputy commissioner and managing director of Millennium Housing Limited.
In the rule, the court asked them to explain why contempt of court proceedings should not be initiated against them for violating its order.
The HC bench of Justice Fahmida Quader and Justice Mubina Asaf issued the rule following a contempt of court petition filed by Bangladesh Environmental Lawyers Association (Bela).
Lawyer Mohammad Ashraf Ali assisted by lawyer S Hasanul Banna moved the petition.
