Gold trader shot and robbed in Rampura
Armed robbers shot a man before snatching a bag containing gold and cash in the capital's Rampura tonight.
The incident took place around 10:30pm on Road 7, Block D in Banasree.
The victim, Anwar Hossain, 43, a jewellery shop owner, was carrying 200-bhori gold ornaments and Tk 1 lakh in cash, said police.
Ataur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Rampura Police Station, said Anwar was attacked in front of his house when he was returning home after closing shop.
He was shot in both legs and has been admitted to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital, the OC said.
A video of the incident went viral on social media.
Anwar Hossain said seven armed robbers on motorcycles stopped him on his way and tried to snatch his bag leading to a scuffle.
At one point, when he resisted one of the robbers shot Anwar and fled with the bag on their bikes, he added.
Police are trying to identify and arrest the criminals, the OC added.
Md Faruk, in-charge of Dhaka Medical College Hospital police outpost, said a man from Banasree came to the hospital with bullet injuries. He is being treated in the emergency department.
