Fake case against SK Sinha: Nazmul Huda gets permanent bail
A Dhaka court today granted permanent bail to former BNP minister Barrister Nazmul Huda in a case filed over lodging a fake case against former Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha.
Judge Sheikh Hafizur Rahman of the Special Judge Court-9 of Dhaka passed the order after Nazmul Huda appeared before it, seeking permanent bail in the case.
The judge fixed January 16 for hearing on charge framing against the accused in the case.
On November 24, Judge KM Emrul Kayesh of the Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge's Court granted him ad-interim bail in the case.
Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Director Benjir Ahmed, also the investigation officer of the case, submitted the charge sheet against the former minister.
Nazmul Huda filed the case against the former Chief Justice SK Sinha with Shahbagh Police Station on September 27, 2018, for demanding bribe from him and changing the judgement of a graft case that had already been disposed of.
The ACC after probing the case for one and a half years found the allegations baseless and false.
On December 4 of 2019, discharging SK Sinha from the charges of the case, the national anti-graft watchdog submitted the final report.
The ACC Director Syed Iqbal Hossain filed the case with the ACC's integrated district office in Dhaka on February 19 of 2020.
On November 9, SK Sinha, now in USA, was jailed for 11 years in a money laundering case.
