Custodial Death in Rangpur: HC forms probe committee
The High Court yesterday formed a three-member committee headed by Rangpur's district and sessions judge to conduct inquiry into the alleged custodial death of one Tajul Islam last month.
The committee has been directed to submit the report in 15 days, said Deputy Attorney General Amit Das Gupta.
The HC bench of Justice Mamnoon Rahman and Justice Khandaker Diliruzzaman passed the order.
He said the Rangpur police earlier submitted its inquiry report to the HC saying that Tajul's death was natural. Tajul was reportedly tortured to death in police custody in Rangpur's Kaunia on November 1.
After the news spread, a mob reportedly threw brickbats at Haragach Police Station and vandalised a few police vehicles at evening on November 1. Police said they did not torture anyone.
