Ctg court issues arrest warrant against City Group chairman
A Chattogram court today (July 14, 2022) issued an arrest warrant against City Group Chairman and Managing Director Fazlur Rahman in a case filed by Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institute (BSTI) for not maintaining standard vitamin levels in soybean and palm oils.
Fourth Chattogram Metropolitan Magistrate Kazi Shariful Islam issued the arrest warrant after framing charges in the case against Fazlur Rahman, said Advocate Ashraf Uddin Khandokar representing BSTI, reports our staff correspondent.
"Securing bail from a higher court, City Group chairman used to extend the time from lower court without appearing before the court physically. As he did not appear before the court, the magistrate issued the arrest warrant in the case," he told The Daily Star.
Earlier, BSTI's Inspector Rajib Das Gupta filed a case accusing Fazlur after City Group's palm and soybean oil "Teer" failed to pass "Vitamin-A" test in BSTI lab on October 20, 2019.
In the case statement, the allegation was brought against Fazlur saying that he disobeyed the government order and act by not following edibles oil fortification with Vitamin A Act-2013.
Despite repeated attempts to get comments, City Group has not responded.
