‘Attack on police’: Jubo Dal leader Nirob on 3-day remand
A Dhaka court today placed Saiful Alam Nirob, former president of Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal, the youth front of BNP, on a three-day remand in a case filed over assaulting policemen and preventing them from discharging their duties.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Mosharraf Hossain passed the order after Md Mahbubur Rahman, sub-inspector of Tejgaon Industrial Police Station and also the case's investigation officer, produced him before it with a five-day remand prayer.
In the remand prayer, the IO said Nirob and his supporters carried out the attack on police with brickbats and also threw crude bombs in front of Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) during the party's road march yesterday. The attack injured several policemen. So, he needs to be remanded to find out vital clues about the incident, the IO added.
Defence, however, submitted a petition seeking bail along with cancellation of the remand prayer on grounds that their client was implicated in the case as part of a conspiracy to harass him.
The magistrate turned down the defence pleas and placed him on remand for quizzing about the incident.
Nirob was picked up yesterday afternoon in the city's BFDC area while he was preparing to participate in the party's road march protesting the price hike of daily essentials and realising their 10-point demand.
Following the incident, police filed a case against Nirob and 52 others with the police station.
