3 constables withdrawn in Ctg after video of cops shaving children’s heads goes viral
Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) has withdrawn three police constables after a video of two children being abused by the cops at DIG Bungalow in Chattogram city's Lalkhan Bazar, went viral on social media.
The incident took place on August 19, 2022 and the video went viral today (August 21, 2022), reports our Chattogram staff correspondent quoting CMP's Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) (PR-ICT) Md Shahadat Hussain Rasel.
In the video, it was seen that two 13-years old boys were tied up with a pole and physically abused and at one point their head was shaved off by the policemen.
The three police constables -- Md Mehedi, Md Mazhar, and Md Ahsan -- were attached to CMP's Mansurabad Police Lines from DIG's residence in Lalkhan Bazar area, ADC Md Shahadat Hussain Rasel told The Daily Star.
"After noticing the video, the three constables were withdrawn from their duties and police have started an investigation about the incident," he said.
"A probe committee was formed and action will be taken after investigation," the police official added.
The two abused children use to live with their parents in Motijharna area of Lalkhan Bazar. Among them, one is a student of class seven.
Local sources said, there were several incidents of burglary by unknown juveniles near the Lalkhan Bazar Magistrate Colony and its surrounding area under Khulshi Police Station. The residents of the colony alleged that the juvenile thieves used to do the burglary in that area.
On Friday noon, three children including the two victims were chitchatting near Lalkhan Bazar Government Primary School. On information, the three constables chased the children and detained two of them and took them nearby Jilapi Pahar (Batali Hill). Later, they were tied to an iron pole and their heads were shaved off.
When contacted, Officer-in-Charge (OC) Santosh Kumar Chakma of Khulshi Police Station said, "I was on vacation so I am unaware of the incident."
