2 arrested with 17 gold bars in Benapole
Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested two people along with 17 gold bars that the duo was allegedly trying to smuggle to India through the Putkhali border in Benapole.
The arrestees are Hafizur Rahman, 34, and Mehedi Hasan, 21, of Balunda village under Benapole Port Police Station, reports our Benapole correspondent quoting BGB Battalion-21 Commander Lt Col Tanvir Rahman.
A case was filed with the Benapole Port Police Station in this connection, the BGB official added.
Acting on a tip-off that a large quantity of gold was being smuggled to India through the Putkhali border in Benapole, a BGB patrol team raided Uttarpara area in Putkhali and detained the duo along with 17 gold bars and a motorcycle.
The seized gold bars are worth Tk 1.5 crore and the two smugglers were handed over to Benapole Port Police Station, he said.
