2 AL leaders among 4 mysteriously die in Kishoreganj
Four people, including two local Awami League leaders, mysteriously died in phases within 24 hours since yesterday afternoon while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Kishoreganj.
Doctors at Jahurul Islam Medical College Hospital in Kishoreganj said they were yet to identify the reasons behind their deaths, reports our Mymensingh correspondent.
However, locals think the four might have died due to any kind of toxicity or food poisoning.
The deceased are Gias Uddin, 57, and Jahir Raihan, 58, organising secretaries of Kuliarchar upazila AL; Gobinda Chandra Biswas, 45, a local homeopathy doctor, and Shahjahan Mia, 52, a local transport operator, said police.
Another AL leader, Habibur Rahman, also panel mayor of Kuliarcahr municipality, is now undergoing treatment at the Dhaka hospital.
Locals and police said all of them dined together on Saturday night. They fell sick and got admitted to the hospital yesterday morning. Of them, Shahjahan died yesterday afternoon.
Later, Gias Uddin and Jahir died around 4:00am today and Gobinda died at around 11:00am yesterday, said police quoting doctors.
"We could not identify the cause behind their deaths instantly. We will be able to know the reason after getting the autopsy reports," said Bahr Uddin Bhuiyan, director of the hospital.
Contacted, Kuliarchar Upazila Parishad Chairman Yasir Miah said he rushed to the hospital after hearing the incident and saw the bodies.
"As I guess, they [victims might have died due to toxicity or food poisoning. But doctors will able to know the actual cause," he said.
Kuliarchar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Golam Mustafa said police were investigating the incident. The bodies were sent to the hospital's morgue for autopsy.
