120 gold bars, hidden in plane’s tissue box chamber, seized
Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate seized 120 gold bars -- weighing around 14kg -- from an aircraft's tissue box chamber at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport yesterday afternoon.
Six bundles of gold bars were hidden in an aircraft of Biman that landed at the airport around 4:15pm yesterday, said CIID Director General Abdur Rouf at a press conference at his office in Kakrail this afternoon.
None was arrested as the gold worth around Tk 10 crore was left abandoned, he added.
CIID said they have seized around 40kg gold this fiscal year while the amount of seized gold was 174 kg and 180 kg in last two fiscal years respectively.
