Road crashes claim four more lives
Four people died while 15 others were injured in four road accidents in Dinajpur's Chirirbandar, Joypurhat Sadar, Habiganj's Madhabpur, and Moulvibazar's Kulaura yesterday.
Rasel Mia, 18, of Naogaon's Mohadebpur upazila, the helper of a paddy-loaded truck, died after the vehicle collided head-on with another truck on the Dinajpur-Gobindaganj regional highway around 5:30am. Both the truck drivers and the helper of the other truck were also injured, said Bazlur Rashid, officer-in-charge of Chirirbandar Police Station.
The injured are being treated at the Chirirbandar Upazila Health Complex.
Saiful Islam, 30, of Hakimpur upazila died after a pick-up truck hit his motorbike on the Joypurhat-Hilly road. His friend Sohel Rana, 28, was injured, said Shirajul Islam, OC of Joypurhat Sadar Police Station.
Meanwhile, Abdul Malek, 35, of Sudiakhola village of Shayestaganj upazila died while four others were injured after their microbus collided with a small truck on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway around 6:00am, said Mainul Islam Bhuiyan, OC of Shayestaganj Highway Police Station.
Both the vehicles involved in the accident were seized while the injured were being treated at Habiganj Sadar Hospital, the OC added.
Fahid Gazi, 12, a third grader, died on the spot after the CNG-run autorickshaw he was travelling in collided head-on with a microbus on the Kulaura-Rabirbazar road around 5:30pm. Seven other auto-rickshaw passengers were also injured in the accident, said Abdus Salek, OC of Kulaura Police Station.
The injured are being treated at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital.
