Indian PM Modi thanks PM Hasina for ‘thoughtful gesture of mango gift’
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has termed the mangoes sent by Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina a thoughtful gesture and reminded him of the generous hospitality of Bangladesh during his visit in March.
"I am touched by your thoughtful gesture of sending me mangoes from Bangladesh. It was a pleasant reminder of your generous hospitality in Dhaka extended to me during my recent visit to Bangladesh," Modi said in a letter to PM Hasina on July 5.
PM Hasina sent 2000 kilograms of sweet Haribhanga mangoes, a variety grown mostly in Rangpur, for Indian President Ram Nath Kovind and PM Narendra Modi on July 4.
Chief Ministers of West Bengal, Tripura, Mizoram, Assam and Meghalaya were also sent mangoes as a gesture of goodwill.
PM Modi wrote that despite the disruptions caused by Covid-19 pandemic, cooperation between the two neighbours continued to flourish in all areas of bilateral relations.
"I am glad that follow-up discussion and initiatives have taken place despite these disruptions," he said, reiterating Indian government's commitment to progressing mutually beneficial cooperation.
"Please accept, Excellency, the renewed assurances of my highest consideration," said the letter.
