8 including Kalaroa Jubo Dal leaders chargesheeted

Eight people including the Kalaroa Upazila Jubo Dal President and its General Secretary were chargesheeted on January 1 in a case filed in the magistrate's court here for torturing some journalists at Kalaroa on August 30.

The accused included Ashraf Hossain, Presdient, Kalaroa Upazila Jubo Dal, General Secrtary Abdul Kadar Bachchu and Jubo Dal activists Ripon, Ranju, Raihan, Jahid, Lucky and Juhurul Islam.

Subhas Chowdhury, Satkhira correspondent of Bhorer Kagoj in his case filed with Kalaroa police station on August 30 said that a group of local journalists went to Kalaroa to cover the story of the Opposition Leader in Parliament and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina who was on way to Jessore via Kalaroa after visiting the gangraped housewife Mahfuz at Satkhira hospital. At Kalaroa the accused attacked her and local journalists named Habib, Eyarab Hossain Tuhin and Kalidas who were injured in the attack.

The ruling party activists beat up the journalists who took snaps of attacks and later police rescued them.

After investigation Sub-inspector (SI) of police Humayun submitted the chargesheet against the accused for torturing the journalists. All of them are linked with BNP.

Sources in the investgation department said, they are convinced that the accused persons attacked the journalists.

Police submitted the chargesheet at a magistrate's court after four months of investigation.
