3 held after shootout with cops

Two alleged criminals were shot in a shootout between police and the criminals at Banagram in the city's Sutrapur area yesterday afternoon.

Police arrested Shahidul Islam alias Kabutor Babu, 30, Chanchal, 20 and Mohammad Selim, 25 after the shootout.

Police said Shahidul has at least 20 cases, mostly extortion related, filed against him while Chanchal and Selim, his accomplices, are also involved in many criminals cases with the Sutrapur Police Station.

A police team rushed at Banagram area on a tip off to arrest Kana Babu and his gang members. Seeing the police, the gang members started running off and fired gunshots at police men.

The police fired back in self-defense leaving the two injured.

Police arrested Shahidul, Chanchal and Selim from the spot. Shahidul and Chanchal were admitted to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital with bullet injuries in their legs.

A case has been filed with Sutrapur Police Station in this regard.
