EU says 'shooting needs to stop' in Ukraine

The European Union called yesterday for full implementation of a hard-won Ukraine ceasefire, insisting that "the shooting needs to stop." The worst breaches of the ceasefire were reported around Debaltseve, a key transport hub located between Donetsk and Lugansk, the main rebel strongholds.

Hackers pull off $1bn bank heist

Up to 100 banks and financial institutions worldwide have been attacked in an "unprecedented cyber robbery", claims a new report. Computer security firm Kaspersky Lab estimates $1bn has been stolen in the attacks, which it says started in 2013 and are still ongoing.

Top China official to face prosecution for corruption

Former senior official Su Rong has been expelled from the Chinese Communist Party for corruption and faces prosecution, said the country's top anti-corruption body. Su was a vice-chairman of China's parliamentary advisory body. The Central Commission for Discipline Inspection said he had used his position to obtain "large bribes".

Greece delays presidential polls

The Greek government has delayed naming its candidate for president amid reports of internal bickering ahead of yesterday's crunch bailout talks in Brussels. The radical left ruling Syriza party will announce its candidate "after the important Eurogroup meeting" on Greece's demands to review its bailout, government spokesman Gabriel Sakellaridis said.
