Man dies falling from roof

A man died after falling from the rooftop of a mosque while asleep in the capital's Jatrabari early yesterday.
Hossain Ali, 28, of Mymensingh, a day labourer, had been sleeping on the roof of the three-storey Madina Mosque in north Jatrabari over the last one year. Locals rushed him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital around 3:00am where he died after two hours, said hospital sources.
Shooting contest of police ends

A three-day-long shooting competition of Bangladesh police concluded yesterday at Army Shooting Range in the capital where police personnel participated in eight events.
In Inspector General Cup-2014, Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) team led by its Director General Mukhlesur Rahman, became the champion at 0.22 Bore-pistol shooting in group while Armed Police Battalion's team led by Captain Mostafa Kamal became the runner up, says a press release.
Road crashes kill two

A person died when a truck hit a van from behind on Thakurgaon Railway Station road at BSIC intersection in the municipality area in Thakurgaon on Tuesday.
The deceased was van puller Alam, 40, of Purbuki village.
Meanwhile, in Gaibandha Azizur Rahman, 72, of Paschim Masta village died when a pick-up van ran him over while he was crossing Bogra-Rangpur highway in Masta village yesterday.
Six restaurants fined in Ctg

A mobile court in Chittagong city yesterday fined six restaurants Tk 85,000 for running their business illegally and not maintaining hygiene.
The court led by district administration's executive magistrate conducted the drive at Aktharuzzaman centre in Agrabad area and fined Food Heaven, Fantasy Centre, AFC, Meet Fast Food and Mojaa Tk 15,000 each.
Meanwhile, Haji Biriani in the area was fined Tk 10,000.
Five more billboards pulled down

A mobile court pulled down five more illegal billboards and fined the board's owners Tk 10,000 each in Prabartak Moor and Mirzar pool areas in Chittagong city yesterday.
The court led by a Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) executive magistrate conducted the drive.
Mentionable, CCC and Chittagong Metropolitan Police jointly started drives to pull down 422 illegal billboards from Sunday.
EU ambassador visits Barisal

European Union Ambassador to Bangladesh, Pierre Mayaudon yesterday visited Barisal to supervise EU-supported three projects addressing skills development nutrition and agriculture.
The EU finances the projects with about 19 million euros (Tk 190 crore), says a press release.
The Ambassador traveled to Hizla and Koralia to visit farmers' organisations using innovative and replicable techniques in horticulture, aquaculture and field crops.
Two-day child fair begins today

A two-day fair for children will begin today at Techno-Cider International School in Chittagong city on the occasion of World Children's Day.
Lion Mukhlesur Rahman Foundation (LMRF) with a slogan “Eso Mati Ullase” is organising the fair.
Competitions on different topics, cultural programme, magic show, puppet-show and comedy shows will be arranged, said organisers at a press conference held at Chittagong Press Club yesterday.
