Nahid again promises punishment for MC College arsonists

Over two years into the incident of torching the century-old dormitory of MC College in Sylhet, Education Minister Nurrul Islam Nahid yesterday again assured that stern actions would be taken against the perpetrators.
"I have talked with the home minister about the issue," said Nahid after inaugurating two tin-shed buildings of the dortmitory.
The education engineering department of the college reconstructed five buildings, including the two, which were burnt on July 8 allegedly by BCL and Jubo League activists following a clash with Shibir activists.
Man attempts suicide after killing wife in Gazipur

A man attempted suicide after killing his wife at Kaicchagar in Sreepur municipality of Gazipur early yesterday.
Sreepur Model police said Abul Hashem first stabbed his wife, Johura Begum Shohagi, 35, with a knife in their bedroom and then consumed pesticide.
Locals rushed Hashem to Shreepur Upazila Health Complex from where he was shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Police sent Shohagi's body to Gazipur Sadar Hospital for an autopsy.
Locals claimed Hashem was mentally challenged while police suspect he committed the murder in a sane manner. A case was filed.
Six robbers held in Tongi

Six robbers were arrested with sharp weapons and Tk 43,000 from Machimpur area of Tongi under Gazipur City Corporation while they were taking preparation for robbery yesterday.
Tipped-off, a team of Rab-1 conducted a drive and held Moshfikur Rahman, 26, Alamgir Hossain, 33, Sohel Miah, 43, Mashiur Rahman, 29, Saddam Hossain, 22 and Lablu, 27.
A microbus and a truck were also seized from their possessions.
Ruet admission test on Thursday

Admission test for the first year honours programmes at Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (Ruet) under 2014-25 academic session will be held on Thursday, said a press release.
The reopening date of regular classes and examinations of the university will be informed later.
Earlier, on September 18, the university authority closed the campus for indefinite period following a clash between Shibir and BCL activists.
Man's body recovered from hotel in Ctg

Police recovered the body of a man from Greenway Hotel at AK Khan Intersection in Chittagong city yesterday.
The man boarded there identifying himself as Mizan, 30, hailing from Chakaria upazila of Cox's Bazar on Monday, said police.
On information, police recovered his body breaking open the door as he did not respond around 11.30pm. Two empty bottles of poison were also found from the spot.
He might have committed suicide, said police.
PUST admission test on Nov 29

The admission test for the bachelor's programme at Pabna University of Science and Technology (PUST) under 2014-2015 session will be held on November 28.
The last date for submission of applications is October 25, says a press release.
Man detained with Tk 57.92 lakh from Ctg court area

Police detained a man with Tk 57.92 lakh from in front of Annex Bhaban of Chittagong Court Building area while he was suspiciously loitering around yesterday.
Md Elius, 32, of Brahmanbaria could not give any reliable answer about the source of the money he was carrying in a sack, said police.
17,000 eggs seized in Gazipur, 3 held

Police seized 17,000 chicken eggs, and a pickup used for carrying those, and detained three men in Gazipur's Hotapara Monday night.
Around 15,000 of those eggs were rotten, said Hatapara police outpost Sub-inspector Harun-or Rashid. The detainees were bringing the eggs from Narish Poultry Farm and Hatchery in Sreepur to Dhaka. The farm authorities, however, claimed that the eggs were not rotten.
