Girl killed 'after rape' in Savar
Unb, Savar
A girl has been strangled allegedly after being raped in Tongabari area of Ashulia in Savar outside the capital.
Police recovered the body of the unidentified victim yesterday morning. Locals spotted the half naked body of the girl, aged around 17, with her hands and legs tied with ropes in a bamboo cluster in the area and informed police. Later, the law enforcers sent it to Dhaka Medical College morgue for autopsy.
Officer-in-charge of Ashulia Police Station said the girl might have been raped and then killed some time after Friday midnight. A case was filed.

US official for war crimes issues Rapp due tomorrow

United States' Ambassador-at-Large for War Crimes Issues Stephen J Rapp will come to Bangladesh tomorrow on a three-day visit, official sources said in Dhaka yesterday.
During his stay in Dhaka, he is expected to meet the law minister, foreign minister and foreign secretary, and is scheduled to hold a press briefing.
Rapp visited Bangladesh several times in the last few years. During his last trip in May 2013, he expressed satisfaction over the war crime trials in Bangladesh, but said the process had not fully maintained international standards.
Two girls drown in capital

Two cousins drowned in a wetland in Beraid of the capital's Badda yesterday.
The dead were Mim Akter, 10, daughter of Habibur Rahman Hobi, and Joyti Akter, 7, daughter of Md Dalim.
The incident occurred while they were bathing in the wetland, said Habibur, adding that none of them knew how to swim. They were declared dead at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Woman hit by husband dies in hospital

A woman died after her husband hit her with a cricket bat in their residence in the capital's Jatrabari yesterday.
The deceased was Panna Khatun, 20, wife of Anisur Rahman Nantu. Police arrested Nantu who has confessed to the murder during primary investigation.
Nantu and Panna were arguing regarding a family feud when Nantu hit her in the head with a cricket bat leaving her critically injured, Abani Sankar, officer-in-charge of Jatrabari Police Station, said quoting Nantu.
She was declared dead at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Youth stabbed 'by brother' in capital

A youth was stabbed to death allegedly by his younger brother in the capital's Uttar Khan yesterday.
The deceased was Abdul Quader, 28, a resident of Barishal Colony. Police arrested the younger brother Nader Hossain.
The incident occurred when Quader rebuked Nader for shouting at their sister, Kulsum.
Quader was declared dead at Uttara Adhunik Hopital. The body was handed over to the family after an autopsy at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Kulsum filed a murder case.
Woman found dead with throat slit in Ashulia

An unidentified woman was found dead with her throat slit at a bamboo thicket in Tongabari of Ashulia, outside the capital, yesterday.
Being informed by the locals, police recovered the body with several injury marks, and sent it to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for an autopsy.
