1 held with 17,500 Yaba pills in Ctg

Police detained a youth and seized 17,500 pieces of Yaba tablets, worth Tk 52.5 lakh from his possession in Reazuddin Bazar area of Chittagong city yesterday.
Tipped-off, police conducted a drive at a building in the area and detained Atiqul Islam, 20, of Anwara upazila of Chittagong from a room and recovered the pills.
Rickshaw puller dies from electrocution in Ctg

A rickshaw puller died from electrocution in Hill View area under Panchlaish Police Station in Chittagong city early yesterday.
Osman Gani, 35, of Gaibandha came in contact with a live electric wire at a rickshaw garage, said police.
He was rushed to Chittagong Medical College and Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
DoE fines dyeing factory Tk 1.5 crore for polluting environment

The Department of Environment (DoE) yesterday fined a dyeing factory Tk 1.5 crore for releasing untreated effluent into the Shitolokkha river at Lamapara of Fatullah in Narayanganj.
The factory officials of Ruposhi Group confessed to polluting the river and promised to take necessary steps, said a DoE press release. DoE sources said the factory management is running their business without Effluent Treatment Plants denying the environmental rule.
Thief dies in mob beating in capital

An alleged thief was beaten dead when he was about to enter a house on the 5th floor of an eight-storey building in the capital's Badda area yesterday.
Rabiul, 25, lived at Aftabnagar, Rampura, was climbing on a pipe when a local man, who woke for Sahri, raised an alarm, said police. Locals caught Rabiul and gave a good beating. He died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Muggers shoot Opsonin Pharma staff in N'ganj

Muggers shot accounts officer of Opsonin Pharma depot in Chandmari area of Narayanganj city yesterday.
Abdul Razzak was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital with bullet wounds in his abdomen and leg.
Abdus Sayem, in-charge of Opsonin, Narayanganj depot, said two muggers in a motorbike stabbed them before their depot around 12:30pm to snatch their bag containing Tk 4.67 lakh while going to a bank at Tanbazar by a rickshaw. During the attack, Razzak handed over the bag to Sayem who threw it near their office. Failing to take away the money, they shot Razzak indiscriminately, he said.
