Two youths murdered in Jessore

Two youths were killed in separate incidents in Jessore yesterday.
Shahidul Islam, 28, son of Abdul Jalil of Dighri village, was hacked and beaten to death by opponents at the village in Chaugachha upazila following land dispute.
The body of Mahidul Islam, 25, who was strangled, was recovered from an abandoned house at Narikenbaria in Sharsha upazila. He was a drug addict, said police.
Man kills wife at Ashulia

A woman was allegedly killed by her husband following a family feud at Zamgora of Ashulia, on the outskirts of the capital on Thursday.
Rina Akter, 25, daughter of Gias Uddin, of Naogan, got married to Ripon Hasan of Jessore about five years ago. They had an altercation on the day following Ripon's second marriage.
Police suspected that Rina was strangled. Her body bore many marks of injury. Ripon is yet to be arrested.
BU student held for ransacking registrar's office

Police arrested a student of Barisal University in the city's Bibir Pukur Par area yesterday afternoon in a case filed for ransacking the registrar's office of the university and injuring four of its staff.
Saidul Islam is a third year student of the economics department, said Kotwali police Officer-in-Charge Shakhawat Hossain.
The university authorities filed the case with the police station on June 7 accusing 55 after a group of students ransacked the registrar's office on June 5.
Summerfield School competes for Asian Debating Championship

Summerfield School Debate Club made it to the final round of the Asian School Debating Championship that held in Serengoon, Malaysia, in June.
Miraz Rahman, Shamsul Nawed Nafees and Quazi Tahmid Hossain, led by ex-Summerfield product Mohammad Taosif Amin Khan, defeating some of the best host teams in semi finals, became the first Bangladeshi team to compete in the final.
Every member of the representing team also made it to the top five speakers' tab, another prestigious record.
Tk 1cr Indian cloth seized

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized smuggled Indian cloth worth Tk 1 crore from Amrakhali area in Benapole yesterday.
Tipped off, BGB officials conducted a drive in the area and seized a truckload of cloth.
However, the driver and helper fled the scene.
The seized goods were handed over to Benapole customs office.
One drowns in Dinajpur river

A youth drowned in the Atrai River in Khansama upazila of Dinajpur yesterday.
Yakat Ali, 22, son Ismail Hossain of Telipara village of the upazila, went there to take a bath around 1:30pm. Later locals found his body around 3:40pm, family sources said.
