BNP leader Ilyas Ali, 45 others appear in court
Sylhet district BNP convener and former lawmaker M Ilyas Ali, his younger brother and 44 others appeared before chief judicial magistrate's court here yesterday in connection with a case of snatching of ballot papers during December 29 parliamentary elections last year.
The court fixed September 14 as next date of hearing, court sources said.
Earlier, the court granted ad interim bail to them on June 22 in the same case.
Several ballot papers, sealed with sheaf of paddy, were recovered from a paddy field behind Ashuganj Goverenment Primary School centre in Biswanath upazila a day after the polls. Police alleged that Ilyas and his men had snatched those from government officials. Later, police filed a case against 200 unidentified men and 50 BNP men including Ilyas Ali and some UP chairmen.
