'End salary disparity among teachers'
Bangladesh Primary Teachers' Association yesterday demanded immediate solution to salary discrimination of the teachers and upgrading the post of head teachers to Class II to ensure quality of education.
At a discussion on 'Existing problems and immediate solution to primary education' at Asad auditorium in the city, they also demanded formation of a primary teacher welfare trust comprising representatives who would ensure 100 percent promotions at all levels.
Speaking as the chief guest, Workers' Party of Bangladesh President Rashed Khan Menon MP said it is not possible to bring improvement in the primary education without ensuring the financial solvency as well as development of the teachers.
Assuring to fulfil teachers' demands, he said primary education is the foundation of all levels of education and it has to be given due importance.
Menon, also the chairman of the parliamentary standing committee on education ministry, said primary education may be extended up to class VIII as per recommendations of the upcoming education policy.
Menon sought cooperation from the association leaders in implementing the education policy and asked them to be prepared to take greater responsibility.
Association President Nurul Absar, General Secretary Siddikur Rahman and Adviser AK Fazlul Haque Prodhan also spoke.
