Class boycott at Barisal SBMC
Students of Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College (SBMC) yesterday boycotted classes and examinations and brought out a procession on the campus protesting attack on a college hostel by outsider BCL cadres on Friday night.
Campus sources said a group of BCL cadres, led by Ovi, attacked Dr Habibur Rahman Hostel at around 8:30pm. They beat up a resident student named Jewel and ransacked his room. The attackers left the hostel in the face of resistance by other resident students.
Sources said Jewel and Ovi had an altercation over a trifling matter outside the campus a few days ago and Friday night's attack was a sequel to that incident.
Nuruzzaman Chowdhury, officer- in-charge (OC) of Barisal Kotwali Police Station, said normalcy returned to the campus after police arrested Ovi. He said police have been deployed at the hostel to ensure security of the students.
Jewel filed a case with Kotwali Police Station against seven BCL cadres including Ovi.
