As Juande Ramos walked into White Hart Lane to be officially unveiled as Tottenham manager, he can't have failed to notice vivid reminders of the club's glory days.
Pictures of Paul Gascoigne and Gary Lineker, Glenn Hoddle and Ricky Villa, and Danny Blanchflower and Dave Mackay adorn the walls of the Premier League team's stadium.
These are the Spurs legends that Ramos will have to emulate if he is avoid the same fate that befell his predecessor Martin Jol last week, when the Dutchman was finally sacked after being hung out to dry for months by the Spurs board.
Judging by his impressive CV and steely-eyed determination, Ramos has a fair chance of succeeding where Jol has failed.
He doesn't speak much English yet, at least not in full view of the world's media, but the Spanish coach certainly got his message across as he outlined his blueprint for success at his new club.
While there is no doubt Tottenham, led by chairman Daniel Levy and sporting director Damien Comolli, made an mess of their initial attempt to entice Ramos to the club in August, the truth is they might well have got the right man to give Spurs fans a team with style and substance.
He won five trophies, including two UEFA Cups, with Sevilla and the flair and imagination of his team often caught the eye.
Ramos knows it will take time to make a similar impact in England but he is ready for the challenge.
"My football philosophy is attacking. We'll do our best to play that attacking style that everybody wants to see," he said.
"I'm a professional and I'll always try to do my best, so I'll create a style of football that suits my style and the club
"Spurs are a club that has always had that reputation. It's a bit different from what we know in Spain but that is what we will aim to do.
"I've followed the Premier League and I know a lot of players, as well as the rivalry of Arsenal and Spurs. When we play against Arsenal, I'll try to get good results against them to make our supporters happy."
Comolli made it abundantly clear that Ramos's credentials made it impossible to consider keeping Jol after Spurs slumped into the relegation zone.
"One of the reasons Juande is here is because he gets results with style," Comolli said.
"I don't think anyone at the club ever told Martin that we want to have Champions League football. We just want to do as well as possible. That is different."
With Sevilla threatening legal action over what they claim was an illegal approach for Ramos and chairman Levy absent, Comolli was left to defend Tottenham's conduct and his own role.
The Frenchman is adamant they did not treat Jol badly, even though Ramos was photographed meeting Spurs officials while the Dutchman was still in charge.
"I don't agree that we have behaved badly and lost respect," he said. "Sometimes you have to make decisions like this in football.
"I hope we are taken seriously considering the work done by the chairman and the board over the last six years. They have changed this club around and they deserve respect for that.
"I've got things to do for the club and if the board aren't happy they will probably ask me to leave. About 60 per cent of my job is for the future and 40 per cent is for now."
Ramos insists he has no qualms about working with Comolli, whose influence over transfers was reportedly a source of friction with Jol.
The Spaniard is certain to make changes in the January transfer window and has already been linked with moves for Sevilla duo Freddie Kanoute and Daniel Alves.
He said: "I don't know about the relationship between the board and Martin Jol. I'm not worried about this.
"But I haven't spoken to anyone about players yet. I'm very happy with the squad.
"If we want players we will identify them and have a discussion."
