A ten-member team of divers yesterday started examining the causes of collapse of around 200 metres of Sirajganj town protection embankment in the Jamuna on last Friday, which exposed the town to the threat of flooding.
The teams from naval headquarters in Dhaka rushed to the spot to assess the vulnerability of the riverbed near the damaged section of the embankment.
Water Development Board officials said, they earlier got the riverbed examined by some local divers but did not indicate any vulnerability or immediate damage of the embankment.
Lt Shahidul Islam, leader of the naval team, said they are yet to find out the cause of the damage.
"After initial survey, we have not found any cause of risk in the area," he said adding that they will soon find out the reason behind the damage.
Meanwhile, a six-member probe team from Dhaka will reach Sirajganj today to inquire into the causes of damage of the embankment--built ten years ago with the guarantee period of hundred years.
