Call to declare Jyoti Basu's house historic building
Mitali, an Indo-Bangladesh cultural society, has called on the government to preserve the house of Jyoti Basu, a veteran communist leader of the sub-continent, at Barodi in Narayanganj and declare it a historic building in order to honour him.
It also demanded that the road from Bishwa Road to his Barodi house be named after him.
"Jyoti Basu, also a former chief minister of West Bengal, has turned 96. It is the right time to honour him," the organisation said in a memorandum submitted to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina through Sajeda Chowdhury, deputy leader of parliament, yesterday.
