Road march to protest move to lease oil, gas blocks
The road march of National Committee to Protect Oil, Gas, Mineral Resources, Power and Port from Dhaka towards Cox's Bazar to protest leasing of offshore blocks to foreign companies to explore oil and gas reached Mohipal in Feni yesterday.
Local leaders also joined the road march at Shahid Minar on Trunk Road in the town.
A rally was also held that was presided over by Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB), Feni unit leader AKM Faizul Huq Milky.
Convener of the National Committee Sheikh Muhammad Shahidullah, Member Secretary Anu Muhammad, central leader Mohammad Shah Alam, Bazlur Rashid Feroz, Tipu Biswas, Saiful Haq, Moshrefa Mishu, Jonaid Saki amd Mahmudur Rahman spoke.
The speakers said the government has already decided to lease two out of eight blocks to the foreigners.
If the agreements are implemented, Bangladesh would lose the ownership of the gas blocks.
Following the rally, the road march left for Mirersarai in Chittagong where they will spend the night.
