Monthly literary magazine 'Kali O Kolom' arranged a recitation programme at the Bengal Gallery of Fine Arts, Dhanmondi on July 7 to celebrate its sixth anniversary. Twelve noted and contemporary poets of the country recited their poems at the programme.
Abul Hasnat, editor of the magazine, gave a brief speech prior to the recitation. Hasnat emphasised on the magazine's activities. "Since its inception, 'Kali O Kolom' has been promoting young authors as well as upholding the literary traditions of the country," said Hasnat at the programme. The well-known publication turned six last February.
Hasnat also informed that the upcoming 'Sraban' issue of 'Kali O Kolom' would commemorate the birth centenary of poet Vishnu Dey.
Hosted by poet Hayat Saif, the programme began with a rendition of Rabindra Sangeet by noted singer Bulbul Islam. Accompanied by esraj and tabla, the songs -- "Ami takhono chhilem magono" and "Bandhu raho raho" gave the audience a perfect mindset to listen to recitation.
Divided into three groups, the first quartet of twelve poets -- Mahadev Saha, Mohammad Rafiq, Shahzadi Anjuman Ara and Henry Swapan -- took the stage. Featured poems touched on different socio-culture aspects.
Saha recited three poems including a romantic, "Chithi Dio" and "Lal Ronger Chhaya." Mohammad Rafique's recitation included "Pratibhasya Shatabdi" and "Motsyo Konya." Shahzadi Anjuman recited "Beral Swabhab" and "Disposable Prem."
Among other poets, Khandakar Ashraf Hossain, Shihab Sarkar, Mahbub Sadique, Habibullah Siraji, Nasir Ahmed, Zarina Akhtar, Baitullah Kaderi and Omar Kaisar recited their compositions at the programme.
