Man shot at, Tk 5.5 lakh mugged
Armed muggers snatched Tk 5.5 lakh from a staff of a cooperative house by firing gunshots in the city's Moghbazar area yesterday.
The victim was identified as Swapan Kapali, 44, assistant accountant of Dhaka Christian Multipurpose Cooperative Ltd at Dilu Road in Bara Moghbazar.
Sub-Inspector (SI) Shafiqul Islam of Ramna Police Station said a gang of three muggers on a motorbike intercepted Swapan firing blank shots at the intersection on Tongi Diversion road at around 11:45pm and snatched the bag containing the money.
The snatchers shot in Swapan's left leg as he tried to resist them and fled the scene, he said.
Locals rushed him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where he was undergoing treatment.
SI Islam quoting John Bikram Biswas, manager of the cooperative, said after collecting the money from the members of the cooperative, Swapan was going to deposit the amount to Rupali Bank's Moghbazar branch from his Dilu road office.
A case has been filed in this connection.
