Ashraful for extending service age to 60

Local Government and Rural Development (LGRD) Minister Syed Ashraful Islam yesterday suggested for extending the service age of the public servants by at least three years.
“The present service age is not just since the average life-expectancy of the countrymen has increased. It should be raised to 60 years,” he said while addressing the farewell ceremony of LGRD Secretary Sheikh Khurshid Alam at the ministry.
To justify the proposal, Ashraful Islam mentioned that the service age has been made 65 years in different countries across the world.
A public servant, as per the existing rules, goes on leave preparatory to retirement (LPR) at the age of 57.
There is a proposal of the Secretary Committee on Administrative Development Affairs to extend of service age of the public servants.
As per the proposal, the retirement age of freedom fighter civil servants will be 62, while others will retire at 60.
The LGRD minister thanked the outgoing secretary for discharging his duties properly and giving him cooperation in running the affairs of ministry.
Khurshid Alam urged officials and employees of the ministry to work with sincerity and honesty to implement the development activities of the government.
