Five killed in road accidents
Five people were killed and 13 others injured in separate road accidents in Tangail, Satkhira and Sylhet yesterday.
Our correspondent in Tangail reports: Two people were killed and 10 others injured in a road accident on Dhaka-Tangail highway in Mirzapur upazila in Tangail yesterday.
Police and witnesses said the accident occurred at around 1:00pm when a Dhaka-bound passenger bus skidded off the road, leaving two passengers dead on the spot and 10 others injured. Identities of the dead could not be known immediately.
The injured passengers were sent them to Mirzapur Kumudini Hospital.
Our correspondent in Satkhira adds: A housewife was killed in a road accident on Shyamnagar-Noabeki road near Noabeki Bazar under Shyamnagar upazila in Satkhira yesterday.
The deceased was identified as Nazma Khatun, 24, wife of Yakub Ali of Noabeki village.
Quoting locals police said the accident occurred when the victim fell down from an engine van while she was going to Noabeki Bazar, leaving her seriously injured.
She was rushed to Shyamnagar upazila health complex where she succumbed to her injuries.
UNB in Sylhet adds: Two people were killed and three others injured as a bus rammed into a CNG-run auto-rickshaw at Takirai in Chhatak upazila in Sunamganj yesterday afternoon.
One of the deceased was identified as Lutfur Rahman, 50, of Kosba village in Nabiganj upazila in Habiganj.
Police said the three-wheeler got twisted when the bus hit it at 4:30pm, killing its two passengers on the spot and injuring three others.
The injured were admitted to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital.
On information, police recovered the bodies and sent to hospital for autopsy.
