Mainul denies graft charge
Former adviser to caretaker government barrister Mainul Hosein yesterday binned a parliamentary standing committee's allegation that he had allocated plots abusing power.
"The allegations lodged against me are false, baseless and motivated. No plot was allotted during the tenure of the last caretaker government," he said, while briefing newsmen at his Baridhara residence.
A five-member sub-committee was formed on Thursday to investigate alleged corruption of Mainul.
He said he had obtained a plot of Tejgaon Media Palli in the name of Robbar-New Nation Publications Group during the rule of BNP-Jamaat alliance government. The investigators will certainly examine the plot number, its owner and the time of allotment.
Criticising lawmakers, Mainul said, "If MPs remain busy to investigate corruption of politicians, keeping the Anti-Corruption Commission aside, it will disgrace parliament."
He said, "I did not invent the idea of minus-two formula. Rather I emphasised on the reformation of political parties. Political parties will have to decide who will be in the party or who will not."
He regretted not getting any credit for demolishing the Rangs Bhaban, saying a few political figures were rather trying to raise questions regarding this.
He confessed that the top floor of Musafir Tower at Kakrail had been constructed without approval.
Mainul alleged that an ill-motivated section is trying to misguide the parliamentary standing committee.
