25 hurts as workers clash at Sirajganj
At least 25 persons were injured in a clash between auto-tempo and auto-rickshaw workers at Bazaar Station Karitola in Sirajganj town yesterday afternoon.
During the clash, the workers damaged two auto-tempos and two shops.
The injured were admitted to Sirajganj Sadar Hospital and local clinics. Of them, the condition of one is critical, on-duty doctors said.
Police and local sources said the clash erupted at around 5.30 pm between two groups of workers led by Iyasin Ali and Lebu Mian to establish supremacy over the Bazaar Station Karitola Tempo Stand.
Both the groups equipped with sharp weapons chased each other. The clash continued for about an hour.
On information, police rushed to the spot and charged batons on the workers to bring the situation under control.
Police also arrested eight workers of both the groups. A situation was prevailing and additional police forces were deployed in the area to avert any further incident.
Locals said auto-tempo and auto-rickshaw workers have been using a government land as tempo stand for long and they fought the turf battle for supremacy.
