Why this suffering?
Do the finance ministry high ups ever visit the Jatiyo Sanchoy Bureau offices in Dhaka? If not I would request them to do so early to see for themselves the sufferings imposed on their customers by a “government for the people” service organisation. The office I suggest them to visit is Bazme Quederia Complex, Jatiyo Sanchoy Bureau, in Katabon, Dhanmondi.
To enter the office you have to walk through the ground floor office of the Sonali Bank to the stairs. The entrance to the stairs is filthy, obnoxious, filled with stack of age old gunny bags on the steps restricting easy movement. And when you enter the service area it is no less than a fish market where customers are standing & surrounding each table and there is hardly any place to sit or stand. The whole place is overcrowded with people, air filled with unbearable stench of sweat; compounded with no light and no fan and no proper ventilation, not to talk about any public toilet. Any transaction takes no less 3-4 hours and people wait around. On any working day there are no less than 200 people coming for service and there are transactions of no less than taka two crore. Though the bank and the bureau jointly provide the services, most of the paper work has to be done by the bureau staff. But the physical facilities for the customers at the bureau office are so scanty and limited that it is an apology for a service. I admire the patience and resilience of the silent staff working there. I wonder why they have not gone on strike for a better accommodation and environment for themselves and for better service for their customers.
Now an appeal-- the finance minister is a retired civil servant, but I wonder whether like me, he had to go to any of these offices ever to encash Sanchoy Patra.
I would strongly urge him to pay a visit and see for himself the ordeal faced by us & then do something during his tenure.
