Thatcher breaks arm in fall at home
Former British prime minister Margaret Thatcher broke her arm in a fall at her London home on Friday, her spokeswoman said after she was discharged from hospital.
"She tripped over at home this morning and has broken a bone in her upper arm. She was taken to the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, but she has been discharged and is on the way home now," she said.
Thatcher was "badly shaken" in the fall, The Daily Telegraph newspaper reported on its website. "You know Lady Thatcher. She was busy at home when she fell," an aide told the broadsheet.
A spokeswoman for the London Ambulance Service said: "We were called at just after 8:10am to a residential address in Chester Square. We sent one ambulance. A female patient was taken to hospital."
Baroness Thatcher, nicknamed the Iron Lady, was Britain's first and so far only female premier and headed a Conservative government between 1979 and 1990.
Now aged 83, she gave up speaking in public in 2002 on the advice of her doctors after a series of small strokes.
